Listen to a song you don't understand \\ අහන්න ගීයක් නොතේරෙන බසකින්

Have you listened to a song in a foreign language ? Where you do not understand a word of what is sung. Yet you do begin to notice how the colours and the textures of a human voice weave patterns so beautiful with the musical notes .You start hearing the breaths , in between the words . You start to distinguish the sighs of despair from the short breaths of hope. You hear the feelings , and then you start scripting the story in your mind.

If you haven’t , you ought to try it at least once . Sometimes it will make you wonder why you needed the words in the first place. 

Once upon a lifetime, my father used to collect hindi songs .  He had a drawer full of Hindi cassettes  Although he did not understand Hindi , he sat back , closed his eyes and listened to Mohamed Rafi’s and Lata mangaskar’s voices ...

For years I could not understand this madness . What he enjoyed in songs he did not understand a word of what is said .  How can there be a song , without the words ?

Then along the way I too discovered a few of those. I fell in love .

This was one . I have read the meaning somewhere , but I chose to forget it . Because I loved the story I wrote in my teenage mind . I love it still .

  

After  all these years , as I begin to understand my father . As I become my father ,  I realize I am inflicted with the same bug . Not the same singers, but the yearning to listen to a song that you do not understand . The other day , I was listening to a French song by a young lady called Zaz. (I do not understand French) The memories came flooding in …and this post was a must. 

අපේ අප්පච්චි එකතු කරපු හින්දි සින්දු කැසට් ලාච්චුවක් තිබුනා . පුටුවක දිග ඇරිලා , ඇස් දෙක පියාගෙන , මොහමඩ් රාෆිගේ , ලතා මන්ගේස්කාර් ගේ හඬට සමවැදී , ඔහු පැය ගනන් ගත කළා .ඔහු හින්දි වචනයක් වත් නොදත් බව දත් මට , මේ පිස්සුව ඒ දවස් වල නොවැටහුනි . 

අර්ථය නොවැටහෙන කල කෙසේ නම් ගීතයක් රසවිදින්නද ?

නමුත් කාලයේ ඇවෑමෙන් මට කෙමෙන් කෙමෙන් මේ ලෙඩේ බෝවෙන්නට විය . මගේ ගැටවර වියේ , ඉහත චුරාලියා ගීතයට පෙම් බැන්දෙමි . එහි අර්ථය මම කිහිපවරක් අසා ඇති වුවද මම වුවමනාවෙන්ම අමතක කලෙමි . එය අසන විට මා මනසින් ඇඳ ගත්  කතාවට මම පෙම් බඳිමි . 

කාලය ගතවී , මා අප්පච්චි ව හඳුනා ගන්නට පටන් ගනිද්දී . මා , ඔහු බවට පත් වෙද්දී ,තවත් ගීත මාගේ ප්ලේ ලිස්ට් එකට එක් විය .

ලඟදි , මා මේ ප්‍රංශ ගීතය ඇසුවෙමි .

 මට එහි වදනක් වත් නොතේරේ , නමුත් එය මගේ සිත සීරීය . 

එම සීරුම් පහර මම ඇඟිලි තුඩින් ස්පර්ශ කරමි . එවිට දැනෙන සියුම් වේදනාව , කිතිය මුසුවූ සංවේදනාවට මා කැමතිය .

ඔබ තවමත් කර නැත්නම් , එක් වරක් අසන්න නොතේරන බසකින් ගයන ගීයක් .

 අහන්න මිනිස් කටහඬේ වර්ණ, හැඩ  තල , සංගීතය හා මුසුව අඳින නාද සිතුවම් . වදන් අතරතුර නැගෙන හුස්මට ඇහුම් කන් දෙන්න . වා තලයට හොරෙන්ම එක වෙන ලසෝ සුසුම් . හිමින් සැරේ නාස්  පුඩු දිගේ විත් හිත් හොරෙන්ම සිතේ හිර වෙන පුංචි පුංචි අපේක්ෂා ..ඔබට ඇසෙන්න ගනීවි .
